How to detect an iPhone visitor to your iWeb site

Last year I wrote a post all about making an iWeb site look good on an iPhone or iPod Touch and a few of you have written to me to ask whether it would be possible to have an iPhone user automatically redirected to a completely different page, one that had been designed specifically for an iPhone’s smaller screen. Well I have been doing a bit of digging and a bit of experimenting and I think I have finally come up with a solution.

There are several ways of achieving the automatic redirection however many involve PHP or HTML and Conditional Comments which change the CSS layout of a page. All well and good if you are an established web-designer not using iWeb so I had to find a different method. Read more

How to make your iWeb site’s background static

Having a large image or photograph as background is very ‘in’ at the moment when it comes to modern web design. A problem arises however, when you try to achieve this style in iWeb. Inspector only allows you to set a tile or centered image that will move when a user scrolls the page. This obviously isn’t what you want when you have your most beautiful image as a backdrop for your home page.

To get round the problem all you have to do is a tiny little bit of code editing (and I do mean tiny) before you publish your site and you will be able to keep the background of your iWeb page static whilst scrolling the content. Read more

Some of us do it every year, but if you are anything like me then you don’t end up keeping them very long; New Year’s resolutions. This post came about thanks to the huge number of iWeb sites I take a look at on a weekly basis. It is supposed to be a lighthearted, slightly serious but tongue in cheek look at a few ways you can possibly improve your iWeb site over 2010.

Don’t get me wrong, I do not class myself as the world’s leading authority on web design and I know I am not perfect, but I do feel I know a little of what is good in web design and what isn’t. Read more
